Armor / Gorget

Collar – is a part of plate armour that was used to protect the neck and was developed from the end of the 13th century. Collar usually consists of two parts connected by a hinge and a plug. It gained its final shape at the end of the 15th century. Towards the end of the 17th century, as the use of armour is dropped gradually, the function of collars changed into decoration on aristocratic or officers’ apparel. It was worn separately, not in addition to the cuirasses used at that time.
