Armor / Breast + back plates

Cuirass is a part of armour that protects the breast and back of the torso. This type of armour could be found in China already in the 11th century B.C. and was mostly made of leather. Leather cuirasses were produced in the West as well as in the East until the Middle Ages. They were also made of bronze, metal scales sewn on a piece of leather or cloth, and later of metal plates. Cuirasses sustained their position in armour (mainly in cavalry, but also in infantry) until the WWI.
