Basinet (Bacinet, Basnet, Bascinet, also called the “dog-face” due to its pointed visor) – is a type of lightweight European helmet that was used between the 13th – 15th centuries. Early forms were open, sometimes with ring armour covering the neck and shoulders, and protected only the top of the head. This open face type of conical helmet was named “šlap” in Czech. In the 14th century, a one-piece hinged visor starts to be used with hinges attached on sides.
